There has been a shortage of truck parts for quite some time. This has led to the decline of new truck builds as well as the availability of parts to repair existing trucks. What has caused this trend? What is being done to alleviate the supply issues, now in 2022? Let’s discuss the prognosis of the supply issues and how they are affecting the trucking industry.

Supply issues have been rampant for a while now. Since the lockdowns in 2020 due to Covid-19, factories have had less production of many materials and products. As we continue to recover from the pandemic and factories bring back more employees, there is a trend to increase production and alleviate the semi truck parts shortage they are experiencing.

The shortage of products and materials used in new truck builds has caused a delay and shortage of new trucks. Even existing fleets of trucks are being negatively affected. Many trucking companies have faced a semi truck parts shortage for a number of months now. This can cause a loss of revenue for many trucking companies, as they do not have the parts to keep all of their fleet running smoothly and on the road. If they cannot easily order a certain part and have it installed on any given truck, freight jobs cannot be accepted and income is missed.

Finding OEM semi truck parts has been challenging. Buyers within these trucking companies that are affected negatively have had to get creative and find other suppliers besides the ones they typically choose. They often have to pay extra due to the rising costs of materials made by the original equipment manufacturer (OEM). They may have to adjust shipping times and costs by dealing with the new companies from which they are now ordering these OEM parts. This can cause delays in accepting and completing new shipping orders that their trucking companies are receiving.

Now that things are becoming more normal in this post-pandemic time, products need to be delivered in a timely fashion. Accepting and completing product shipments by these trucking companies is of the utmost importance. As the original equipment manufacturers continue to bring employees back to work and hire additional staffing for their warehouses, the supply of these OEM parts will continue to increase. This will allow delivery of other products to be made more available by getting more of America’s truck drivers back on the road, as new trucks and built and existing fleets are made serviceable.
