transmissionWhat Are Some Advance Features In The Eaton Transmission?

There are many new transmissions that are available in the market today. Some of them have advanced features that can help you to save time and money on fuel and maintenance. One of them is Eaton Procision, a new line of medium-duty dual clutch transmissions that deliver 8 to 10 percent better fuel economy than similar-equipped vehicles with torque converter automatic transmissions. The Procision transmissions feature a dual clutch module that is fully contained within the transmission, hydraulically controlled and oil cooled for extended life.

Dual Clutch Shifting Technology

A dual clutch transmission combines the gear efficiency of a manual with the smooth shifting of an automatic transmission. It was invented by French engineer Adolphe Kegresse in the 1930s and is widely regarded as one of the most important technological developments to have come out of motorsport. Instead of using gears selected purely mechanically like a standard manual transmission, this type of clutch utilises shift forks powered by pistons to pre-select the next gear – allowing it to quickly change back and forth between them as the car accelerates and decelerates. This means the transmission can progress through its full range of gears more quickly than a conventional automatic, so it delivers a superior driving feel.

Dynamic Shifting

Eaton Dynamic Shifting enables the transmission to shift automatically between economy and performance gear change schedules, based on mass, gradient and driver demand. Base shift results are modified dynamically based on available torque, engine acceleration and grade, according to Eaton’s senior vice president and general manager of Commercial Vehicle Transmission business John Beering. The transmission also features brake pedal-actuated Tap Down Shifting, which enables downshifting on gradients and other conditions without removing hands from the wheel or eyes from the road. Automatic Grade Braking is actuated to reduce speed on long steep gradients by downshifting the transmission, helping to increase brake pad life and reduce the load on the engine, he said. The transmission also includes adjustable Urge to Move and Creep Mode, which provide best-in-class low-speed maneuverability. Optional Hill Helper technology prevents the truck from rolling back or forward for up to three seconds while on a gradient of up to eight percent, allowing for a controlled launch.

Electronic Clutch Actuator

The Electronic Clutch Actuator (ECA) is a key component that helps your vehicle start and stop properly and smoothly change gears as you drive down the road. It also works with other components in your transmission to ensure smooth operation and maximize your truck’s performance. The ECA has a position sensor that determines an actual travel position of the clutch actuator. It also detects any after-regulation that may be present in the actuator’s current travel position. This method is adapted to different operating states of the vehicle and enables the servo-loop parameters of the position controller to be regulated accordingly. In this way, the regulating servo can avoid hunting and after-regulation of the clutch actuator. The resulting adjustment is expressed as a bias-current profile that varies in percentages of the maximum possible actuator current based on a displacement position of the clutch actuator.

Smart Calibration

The Smart Calibration Technology is one of the advance features in the Eaton Transmission. This technology automatically analyzes the differences between each individual display. This ensures that your viewing experience is always at its optimum level. It can be done within minutes using a remote control. It also allows you to set up automatic calibration at regular intervals. Another great feature in the Eaton Transmission is the ServiceRanger 4 Pro Plus which is a computer diagnostic and service tool that supports all of Eaton’s automated manual transmissions, hybrid powertrain systems, Advantage Automated Series clutches and Eaton Cummins Automated Transmission Technologies. SR4 Pro Plus also includes the new Eaton Advantage Automated Clutch calibration software which enables dealers, fleets and independent repair facilities to calibrate the clutch on non-Eaton/Eaton Cummins automated transmissions, including popular models such as Detroit DT12, Volvo I-Shift and Mack mDrive automated transmissions.
